Medal order

Post by Roboframer »

What order should these medals go in? I know there are websites but if anyone knows without having to search ....

Also the oak leaf for the Mention in Despatches, which medal ribbon, if any, should it go on?

BTW, the lady that brought these in told me that her husband got the MID for 'shooting down a submarine" - which was nice.

They are in the correct order but not sure about the oak leaves.

MikeySaling's website is a useful resource http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/medals/page6.htm

Order is correct presuming he served in the South Atlantic before Burma, oak leaf goes on the War Medal as shown in your pic.

The leaf goes on which ever medal represents the theatre in which he was awarded it in... Ie, my medals, I have 4; NI, Aghfghan, Diamond Jubilee & Accumulated Service. If I got a Mention in Dispatches during the tour in Afghan, the leaf would be on the ribbon of that medal...

I believe archived copies of The London Gazette are available online. Might take a bit of searching though.

Well the MID is dated 19 Dec 1944 and the incident happened off Dunkirk.

In the first and second world wars it went on the war medal. The campaign medals might have bars added to denote specific battles fought during them.
