Hello all,
I'm currently setting up my own picture framing business after 13 years of working for other people. I thought I'd join this forum because it seems to be one of the few sources of useful information for framers. I think I'll be lurking mostly rather than posting.
While my business is (slowly) setting up, I'm experimenting with various hand finishes and practicing gilding techniques. I am very much interested in learning new techniques but written guides on frame finishes are infuriatingly sparse or amateurish. If I'm pleased with any of the finishes I create, I might post some here if anyone is interested.
I'm very much interested in gilding and I am interested in finding out exactly how to use compo to make ornate frames although I plan to concentrate on more contemporary looking frames. It seems simple enough to do but the right guidance will reduce the hours of failure and mistakes. (I did read the thread about compo frames on this forum).
I'm also an artist and a very competent oil painter.
That's about all for now,
Richard

Re: Hello from North London
Hi Richard - I have a Fine Arts degree specialised in Oil painting, however that was a long time ago and work kept me away from the easel. I also do gold leafing and paint whatever I can whenever I can find a good enough excuse. I am temporarily in London and would love to learn more about effects and gold leafing from an actual human rather than relying on the internet only. If you need help in any way I would be happy to pass the time in a framing shop rather than gallery hopping waiting for work to come my way. My framing business is being looked after by friends while I am on a little sabattical here.
