Hi from Chilean Patagonia

Hi everybody ! I´m Chris from Punta Arenas, Chilean Patagonia. I stumbled upon this fantastic source of information and immediately thought of joining the community.

I am a photographer who got into Fine Arts printing, since I wash´t able to find a proper service down here (you might want to look up how far south we are, hence quite isolated. This is why I purchased a 17" wide format EPSON Pro 3880, and assorted papers from Canson Infinity.

When I thought about my first photo exhibit, the only option was sending my prints to Santiago (2000 miles away), have them framed and shipped back, which made the cost prohibitive. This is when I thought "How hard could this be" and headed of to buy a mitre box, some glue (and later lots of sandpaper).

Nowadays I keep printing and framing exhibits, from local photographers who are usually supported by government funds, so every once in a while I get to frame from 15 to 30 photos at a time. I managed to get a hold of an italian Pilm GH8100 guillotine, a Logan mat cutter and also a Logan underpinner. Most of my supplies (Mouldings manufactured in Chile, Brazil and Spain) come from Santiago, ground shipped which takes roughly 10 days to 2 weeks. I don´t have a hold of a great variety of conservation materials, but I do with whatever I have at hand.

Well, I´ll probably have the opportunity to share more about "framing in Patagonia" in the nearby future, so I thanks you beforehand for the opportunity to learn about such a rewarding trade.

Hi Keith, thanks for your welcome. I do know Todomarco, since they´re one of my suppliers ! I get mouldings and Colormount mat board from them.

Hi Chris,

I introduced Colourmount back in the early 1980's and took care of the export side.

I sold Colourmount into 80 countries and of course TODOMARCO was one of our South American distributors. But the name I remember was Javier Ochoa M. Y Cia Ltda

Good to see you on this forum and feel free to ask any questions. The members here are so friendly and also more than ready to share their knowledge.

You are certainly the most southerly framer on the forum - only 3000 km from your local stockist!
