Newbie says hi

Post by Zac »

Hi all,

I've just completed the (excellent) framing course at West Dene college in West Sussex, and am hoping to transition from being a web developer to a picture framer. The tutor, Jon, suggested this group as a good resource, so I thought I'd join up and say hello.

Hello!

Hopefully I'll get to know some of you as my new career develops.

Cheers,
Zac

Welcome Zac!

West Dean, lovely place. I did a summer school there in 93, Calligraphy with Gaynor Goffe, who I believe still teaches there.

I also did a basic framing course in Chichester at the Earnley Concourse but that’s gone now.

Good luck!

Hi Zac, welcome :)

Good luck in your new career, and I'm sure you'll find this forum helpful. I've been on 3 picture framing courses at West Dean, all with John Hill who is an excellent tutor. Even on my third course, I still learnt loads!

@John - I've also been on Gaynor Goffe's course, but it was at Flatford Mill, where Constable painted. She's a fabulous calligrapher.

Small world!

I also did a watercolour class at West Dean and another calligraphy course at Earnley, this time with another great (and unfortunately, late) calligrapher, David Graham. These calligraphy tutors are "FSSI" Fellows of the Society of Scribes & Illuminators - and that qualification is not for the faint hearted. Gaynor Goffe has to be one of, if not THE best in the world.

These courses were all done as Army pre-release courses, the big plan being framing my own paintings and scribbblings; a nice gentlemanly business to supplement my pension .... maybe a proper, but part time job too. That didn't turn out as expected!

Hey, who's introductory topic is this! Sorry Zac.
