Enough lurking, this is what i can do.

Post by pmdavies33 »

As a 'Garage Framer' or more like a 'Dining Room Table Framer' I have been lurking, admiring and sucking up good tips and advice for too long. I thought it was time I showed some of my work.

I am in the RAF and the aircraft I work on is 40 Years old this year. I commissioned a number of prints and have reaped the reward by getting a number of requests for framing.

This is one of the three designs. Not my choice of frame but it was what the customer wanted.

8) Amazing what you can get away with in the dining room, a friend of mine spent 6 months building a new engine for his old beetle in his Lounge

Anyway well done on the new hobbie / project. Looks good :D

Welcome, to the forum.
I'm currently on resettlement from the RAF and intended on becoming a full time framer although I've subsequently re-evaluated my plans, owing to a great job offer. Don't be put off by being a hobby framer, you've clearly got the skills, I think you'll soon discover that your services will be very much in demand on the Sqns.

Excellent new on the jobfront pinkybanks. You are right, I get alot of work from the Sqns, sort of a captive audience and I must be doing something right because they keep coming back for more. I woll post some more of my efforts if anyone is interested? It is mostly of the Military Aviation variety which I haven't seen much of on here.

Well there's been some, but like everything else, if it's not unusual regards either image or framing, it's not going to get posted.

Thanks Roboframer. From your links I stumbled on Merlin Mounts where I can get mounts for framing cigarette cards, It is also nice to see some different framing techniques for Military Aviation. I would say 80% of my custom is aircraft related pictures, not always.

I ould say you are doing all the right things. You have a captive audience and low overheads, that makes perfect business sense.

Keep up the good work.

There is a guy at RAF Wattisham with a shop on the base! I think he left the service due to injury and they let him have the premises to work from at favourable rates.

Unfortunately space is at a premium here at RAF Benson. The fortunate thing about operating form the dining room is that atleast the Mrs still gets to see me! The unfortunate thing though is the setting up, tidying away and the mess!!

Nice framing, I'm ex-RAF and was thinking of targeting Waddington (so to speak). Perhaps with an ad in the station magazine if they still have one although I am a 40 mins drive from there. We will see.
