Hello

Post by strokebloke »

Good afternoon.
I'm new to picture framing - having arrived from photography
Mount cutting and glass cutting are both relatively new experiences to me, however I'm pleasantly surprised to find that neither activity is anything like as difficult as I imagined it would be.
Frame making is much more familiar territory ~ I began my working life as an apprenticeship served bench joiner.

I am a retired structural engineer, retirement having been enforced upon me in 2004 by several severe strokes.
Photography has been an excellent rehabilitation process for me.
And I have returned to my bench joinery roots, now having set up my own workshop and doing a lot of wood-turning.
Framing my own photographs seems to be the next logical step.

If I may, I will enquire when I don't know.
In the unlikely event that my knowledge or experience may be of value to anyone I'm very willing to share it.
I hope to become acquainted with, at least, some of you as time goes by.

Kind regards,
Jack

Welcome to the forum Jack

May I recommend to you a local wholesaler for your supplies, Tawnycraft Ltd in Oliver St, Northampton in case you were not already aware of them.

(I am not connected to them in any way apart from being a satisfied customer).

Tawnycraft Ltd in Oliver St
Hello, John?
Yes I get all of my supplies there.
Ironically, the first house I owned when I married in the '70's was No. 49 Oliver Street - exactly opposite TawneyCraft.
At that time it was a body panel and paint spray business.

I presume that you are based in Northampton.
I live on a small estate just off the Billing Road East

Thanks for the welcome :)

Ah, but Jack is an alternative form of John and we do have plenty of those including yours truly.

My father was John. Consequently, I was christened Jack to provide a distinction between us.
The irony is that when I was a child I was always known as 'young Johnny', and my father as Jack.
I never really understood adults, until I became one myself :)
Then I found myself understanding them, but not knowing why I did so. :D
