A favourite Architectural Frame made for a large mirror
A favourite Architectural Frame made for a large mirror
One of my favourite frames I made for a large mirror. My customer wanted something different and we agreed on a design I had drawn up. this included ripple moulding, Byzantine decoration as well as her request for jewels. The frame was water gilded in 23.3/4ct gold. The entire surface featured punched decoration (stars & flowers) and the imitation jewels which are set in mounts I made out of wood turnings. The jewels were all made out of resin and resembled garnets and black agate. If I say it myself, once finished, it looked lovely and will at some point make another for myself. Hope it's interesting to a few. Sorry, put it on the wrong post earlier

Most impressive, interesting that you do your own resin casting, something I did a lot of. Presumably casting in clear resin you are making your own moulds, this must give great opportunity to customize these types of frames.

yes I cast lots of different pieces usually in silicon rubber. I have quite a range of hand carved sight/back edges that I haven't got around to using as yet. The imitation jewels were made this way using different pigments mixed with the resin. Once buffed with a small amount of abrasive, it was surprising how jewel like they were.
