Greetings from Manchestershire.

Post by nightofjoy »

Well this looks to be exactly the resource I've been looking for.

I'm Mike, an artist/designer living & working in Manchester.

It's my intention, when I have more time to properly go through the forum with a fine toothed comb, to try & find someone in Manchester willing to help me learn canvas stretching & framing - box frame type, or at least suggest a course somewhere in the Manchester area.

I'll also be putting feelers out for someone who can print to canvas too, with the proposition of a joint venture - my art, their printing & mounting skills & splitting the profit. Anyone out there wants to say HI or pm me, crack on.

I've lived in Manchester for about 15 years now & it's my adopted home. I work mostly as a freelance graphic designer but I'm pretty tired of mechanical, non-creative catalogue & leaflet work.

Into the usual stuff, movies, books, art, the pub, and I'm a mean cook too (though my gf would say not my portions)

So. That's me.

Hi Mike welcome to the forum, can't help you on the canvas framing but I would be really interested to hear why you are interested in box framing. If you have any ideas in the 3D line you can have no fears that I am lurking about, itching to copy you, had plenty of experience of that but I am well retired and put out to grass.

Putting 3D displays into the path of interior designers was my specialty

I think he's referring to boxed canvas or 'gallery wraps' as they say over the pond.

Welcome Mike!

welcome to the forum

you should look at some other options too

canvases are a dying product. waaaay to much cheap carp been flooded onto the market by people that dont really know what they are doing or what they are really producing. They seem to be going out of fashion a little too

thinks like blockmounts and acrylics seem to have taken over a bit

Blockmounts? Acrylics? Not sure I know what they are, can you post couple of links?

Thanks.

Just to confirm, I'm looking for someone in the Manchester area who might be interested in a possible collaboration.

I'm not just looking to find a printer or framer - I could locate someone by myself for that. Cheers.
