printers capable of printing onto mount board
I typed this question into google and it came up with a previous discussion on here dating back to around 2010 so some of the links and printers mentioned are no longer available. I've been trying to print onto mount board or some time and have had success but using a very strange process that would be halved in time if I could find a reasonable A3 printer.
I see Epson seems to be the printer most use for this and I would imagine the printer would need to release the mountboard from the rear so the image prints flat rather than going around the rollers and coming out of the top due to the weight of the card not allowing for this. I can't seem to find any details of printers capable of doing this. I'm looking for a 2nd had Epson printer that won't break the bank and probably from an auction site so if anybody could give me some details this would be great.

If my memory serves, the Epson R3880 has the ability to take media up to 1.5 mm with separate feeds so bypasses the rollers.

Re: printers capable of printing onto mount board
would any large format printer with rear seperate feed be able to take mountboard ie the HP designjet machines or does it only tend to be Epsons?

Canon 9500 allows you to feed the board, up to 1.5mm in at the front. The printer then prints and
puts the paper out the front again. It uses 11 inks. Great printer.

I actually had one of those and didn't realise it printed on 1.5 mm board, I had it as a photo printer, I gave it away because of how fast it went through ink, nice quantity though.

The feed in door lifts up to be flush with the bottom of the feed in floor so the door and floor are level. The board ( 1.5mm ) feeds in and then pushes it out when printing finishes.

Re: printers capable of printing onto mount board
We occasionally print onto self adhesive vinyl on our HP Z5400 and stick it to the mount board, works a treat
For my sins I own and operate

Re: printers capable of printing onto mount board
The Epson SC600 will print onto board between 0.7mm and 1.3mm (according to the manual) I havent tied it yet but it certainly looks like the job.
This is a current model as I have only just purchased mine

Re: printers capable of printing onto mount board
I don't think there is any mention of the size of the board you are hoping to print on. This may not be quite what you have in mind, but I have printed onto suitable paper and then dry mounted the paper onto the mountboard, before cutting the mount. I have done it and it worked, but I don't think I would offer to do it again - quite time consuming!

Re: printers capable of printing onto mount board
Did you find a printer to do this DaveyM ? I'm looking for a suitable printer to feed A3 size mountboard through, with a view to printing lettering onto mounts, would be interested if you have .
Thanks,
