Box frame spacers

I've just made a batch of box frames for a customer and used 5mm foam core for the glass spacer which fitted nicely into the lip of the rebate. Only problem is it is white so is limited in matching the mountboard lining. I've fiddled about in the past with using layers of mount board, 3mm mountboard, paper wrapped wood spacers etc but I find foam core quickest and easiest to get neat corners and it is wide enough to support the liner and backing.

How do other people go about matching spacers and mountboard liner?

I just use one layer of foamcore all the way around, then a layer of matching mountcard, a few dabs of PVA glue and a couple of bits of double sided tape on both foamcore and mountcard to hold in place, shouldn't take more than 5 mins to do
If you cut the foamcore around 5mm shorter than the glass size, so you leave a gap in each corner, then when you fit the mountcard, you can cut them .5 to 1mm over length, they will give a nice fit in the corners as they will bend into the gaps. I use one of these from Lion

Like Steve, but I pva and atg a piece of foam core and mount together then cut down to fit.
I'll have to try Steve's way now!
Ruler looks great, thanks Steve, don't know hw I've never seen that before?

That ruler is great for so many jobs, I use it when trimming down customer titles, or when sticking artist info sheets on the back of the finished frames, just use the grid to line up the words etc for trimming, easy as falling off a log

I stock a fairly extensive range of fillet mouldings, including bare wood, painted and paper wrapped. If need to I can hand finish them to match any particular colour. I also can make custom size, or custom profile spacers fillets on my table saw if I need to using left over moulding scraps, I have a 60 tooth cross cut circular saw blade which gives me a totally flawless very smooth sawn finish.

If anyone is thinking of getting a table saw, the blade size will affect the available range of blades that are available. For this reason, I bought a table saw with a 10 inch diameter saw blade and there are plenty of blade choices available in this size. Needless to say, I can still hand finish any spacers / fillets I cut to size as required.

I like using fillets / spacers, because it very quick and easy. I mitre the fillets using the Morso and glue and join them on the underpinner. I size the to be a nice sliding fit and use the backing board to hold them in place.
