Effects of the heatwave

Post by Rainbow »

I always make up a sandwich, using masking tape. I've just started using a new roll of tape during the heatwave and it's not sticking to the glass at all. It's 3M tape, not cheap unbranded stuff. Is it the heat that's affecting the stickiness or is it a bad batch? It feels sticky enough to the touch. Is anyone else having this problem this week?

The white Nitto tape I use is still behaving.
Out of interest, what sort of temperatures are you getting in your workspace?
I'm getting between 26-29ocC
The only problem I'm having so far is hand painting, where the paint is drying too quickly!
I'm putting off ordering mouldings on a friday, thinking that them sitting in an oven of a courier warehouse for a weekend before delivery on Monday may not help the cause..

Sounds like a humidity thing. It was so sweaty/sticky in London yesterday....and today (but nowhere near as bad today).

JT, interesting comment on the mouldings. I remember someone (I believe it was Prospero) saying they don't join frames as soon as they're cut...but allow the wood to normalize before pinning/gluing.

I've just been to the local newsagents and got some cheapo stuff. Sticks a treat

Yesterday it got to 29.3, and overnight it came down to 28.4 (let's be thankful for small mercies!), which is still what it's showing.

My tape is behaving. It's a bit cooler in my workshop at 2am.

Yesterday it was 33 deg in my shed. It has an 8ft south-facing window. :|

I think that's probably right, but how you beat it is another matter. It's a real PITA trying to stick Kikisui tape onto waterproof coated backing boards in this weather. I've no idea how to solve the problem. Anyone got any bright ideas?

The humidity is making spraying frames a bit of a PITA, the drying times are much longer. BLack is a particular problem for somerease, it takes days to harden enough to,go in the post.
