Just looking at that picture and that is one moulding I wouldn't cut on a Morso. You may not get a bad cut with a newly sharpened set of blades, but after one or two cuts they will be as blunt as the proverbials. Look how the compo is pitted on the edge. It's half cutting, half breaking.

Thats because from your photo they don't appear to be hollow ground which they would have been when they came out of the morso factory. Your new ones obviously are hollow ground. I would check that the company who sharpens them are actually hollow grinding them.
the new set were sharpened at the same time as the morso set and I hope Wessex are hollow grinding our blades, I have said this a few times now, we have absolutely no problem what so ever with our morso blades, they cut perfectly no problems with bad corners, in fact everything is superb.

The new blades are better, better than the new morso blades we had on, better than the sharpened morso blades, the sharpened FC blades are better than the sharpened morso blades and better than the brand new morso blades we had on.
In Short they are better, so far anyway.

Not sure if I can make that any clearer.

The rest of the moulding cut great (with the morso blades), it was that one length which was noticeably lighter than the rest.

Blade checking.

For your information

http://www.framersequipment.co.uk/blade ... _facts.pdf

200 frames from one set of blades is very poor, you should get much more then that out of a sharp set of hollow ground Morso blades. Also miss use on cutting will cause a lower blade life. Such as not enough chops on wide or hard woods and jumping on the medal.

Kind regards

Tell that to the.FC blades that are still on still chopping amazingly well, despite another mammoth hammering of ash this week, we made 15 deep rebate ash and a host of other stuff today.

I like our blades to be sharp, I am aware that if we cut less heavy gesso, ash and oak we would get loads more life out of our blades, but at £12 per sharpen they may as well work to their optimum, I stopped jumping on my pedal about 12 years ago when I smashed the insert out of a blade trying to cut through a knot in south African pine.

FC blades are still going strong, we had quite a busy week chopping around 120 frames only about 10 hard wood though and 40 ish small cushion frames, not hard work for the blades this week.

The FC blades are still on, still sharp and still awesome.

I see no point in continuing to up date this thread any longer so I will leave it here unless there is some drastic change in performance.

Well done FC

Bought a set of FC blades on the strength of this thread and yes they are very good indeed.

One question: the FC blades have a couple of small threaded holes tapped into each blade, what are they for - my very old Morso blades didn't have these?

I brought these blades on the strength of this thread. Bad decision.

We received one set that had a protruding piece of metal on the side that meant the blades couldn't cut down- Lady from FC was very nice and replaced them for us, no worries. Second set had exactly the same fault, but as our other blades were off to be sharpened, we had no option and had to file down the side to allow it to fit. After a very few frames the blades started to shred the back of obeche moludings - even when just shaving a small amount off. Got our Morso blades back today and instantly refitted them and same dodgy obeche mouldings are cutting perfectly.

Have now sent them off for a re-sharpen anyway and we'll see if that makes a difference- could well have been not sharpened properly from day one - wouldnt be suprising seeing that the missed the fact a bit of metal was sticking out! Will update once the blades are back- hopefully they'll be better. Certainly haven't lived up to the hype of the thread anyway!

I also bought a set of these based on this thread...best blades I own now. So much so I had to get another set! I've got four sets of genuine morso blades, and I try to keep the FC blades on as much as possible, with the morso blades being used as a backup.

In my experience they cut smoother through the moulding, and better for longer.

I hope they haven't let the quality go, I bought a 2nd set and they are as good as the first, my morso blades like Jayvee are just back up now.

Please update when you get them back.

I also purchased a set after seeing the ones in use on IFGL 's cutter and his experiences, so far they are superb, very nice cuts on ash and oak.

I have a couple of small threaded holes in my set, the metal from these must be what's stuck to the sides of yours

Other than that I agree blades are superb. Still use chop of wide hard woods though.
