Afternoon all


I have a number of coins in perspex containers ( same size and shape as coins) that a customer wants to hve framed but viewable both sides - i.e. glass both sides

My plan is to cut circles into foam board to fit the coins.

Any ideas if it will be possible for someone with a CNC to cut mounts to suit? The client does not want the coins uniformly spaced... (Which i am not sure makes the job harder or easier!)

Also - in the past I have sandwiched glass and framed by putting a very this mount around the back of the frame and secured using flexi points. Anyone have a better idea?

I have attached pictures of the coins and also the double sided frames I have done previously.

any ideas much appreciated.

I haven't any clever ideas to help you but I would like to have a closer look at your double sided frame, it looks good.... could you upload a bigger image? Cheers

Hi

No other pictures unfortunately. Simply a deep rebate frame with two pices of glass. The cits have been sandwiched and held in place by the tiniest pin drop of adhesive dead centre. The whole ensemble is held together at the back by a very thin mount and flexpoints. The latter is the portion I would like to find a better solution for.,

These coins were all in their own holders too - makes things far easier. They are squeezed in to 5mm black foamboard apertures and each side the mount is cut with fractionally smaller apertures - a multi aperture sink mount IOW.

The back piece of glass .... which might have been acrylic is pinned and sealed just the same as a backing board and then a mount is added over the back of the frame for cosmetics - but something more substantial would be better, maybe a flat painted slip.

Thank you Robo. That looks fantastic. It hadn't occurred to me to pin the glass first and then add a slip or mount . Makes sense in retropsect! I assume that cutouts for the mount where done on a CMC? Is it possible to do this in a more random fashion as requested by client? (If not - She may have to live with some order ).

Yes, done on a CMC and they'll do exactly what you tell them to do so random placement isn't a problem.

Just ask Robo to do it for you as he has all the sizes (as long as he save the design on the computer) so he could just run it off for you

Here is the almost finished product - just wants a plaque put in lower corner " Sochie 2014".

Hard to tell but the coins are silver in colour and the surround mount is a lustre silver / gold. Looks sharper in the "flesh".
