Hi From Newcastle

Post by whitespacewallart »

HI thanks for accepting me onto the forum,

Im Ken Im a experienced colour specialist and ink supplier for inkjet technology ive been doing inkjet printing and supplies since WAYYYY before epson canon and hp had this technology. When it was ONLY IRIS graphics printers with continuous deflection inkjet the first GICLEE.

Now ive decided to offer framing services to help with my business as just selling canvas prints and photos on high end medias doesnt seem to make a difference to the clients who are for some reason only buying on price 'sigh'.

so Im looking for a FRAMING course to learn about framing for photo and floating frames for canvas. Ill pop it on the help forum.

If anyone would like any free advice on Epson printers and inks please ask away Im also a epson dealer and engineer as well as a former beta tester for a couple of ink manufacturers :).

Many thanks

Ken

Hello & welcome,

searching on the Fine Art Trade Guild website brings up this place http://www.atkinframers.co.uk/page8.html they offer training but not on your doorstep but a bit nearer than Derby!

I'll take you up on some free advice about Epson printers :D I have an Epson R2400 which prints beautifully but sadly has been in a box for over 12 months, any advice on starting it up again and will the nozzles be clogged up? :( Thanks.

Hi David,

Cheers for that still a touch too far with accommodation may aswell be derby lol.

As far as your printer, it depends how dry the conditions are, id suggest first atempting to put new carts in and test, if the heads are not responding to a nozzle clean or two then put cleaning fluid on a lint free cloth and posiion under the head over night, dont use WINDOLINE as many siggest as this contains lanolin and other nasty ingredients. I have cleaning fluid I make myself its chemically made to work with my inks but they are very similar to OEM in chemicles and PH values. I can let you have some to try no problems. if that doesnt work I offer a no fix no fee on printers get it to me and if i can fix it theres a charge (generally £50.00) if i cant then you only pay if i have to refill with new inks during testing, so make sure it has plenty ink.

Thanks, will get it going soon and try the head cleaning and see what happens. If the nozzles are clogged I may be in touch about your cleaning fluid :D

The main issues ive seen with desktop systems is when used with a ciss system, often the system is too high or too low and this causes flooding or ink starvation, make sure its level with the print head. On wide format its generally sub standard cheap chinese inks, I sell inks for both but its all using pigments from a company called cabot who used to and maybe still do the pigments for Epson Canon and HP. I also convert to sublimation and sell sublimation inks but again high end not awful chinese with brown blacks. Stick to good quality and you should be fine.

My Epson 44inch machine has been running imported inks for 5 years not one head issue :). now I just need to get framing to make the images look a whole lot more valuable ;)

Hi Ken,

Welcome, mate. You've certainly come to the right place. People on this site are incredibly generous with their knowledge.

As a starting point, get yourself a copy of a great book Prospero recommended to me...it's called 'Picture Framing', by Pete Bingham.

I can't rate this book highly enough....it's a real must-have.

There's one on ebay now for £2.71 (delivered!!)and it'll be the best money you'll spend this year.

Good luck mate & welcome.

Hi Ken.

I have a four year old 7890. It prints beautifully. The problem is when it goes wrong. They charge £90.00 per hour + £90.00 per hour for the travel time. As they have to travel from the South east of England to Cornwall them back again, it coast a fortune.
Just wondered if you know an agent or Epson engineer in the South west, preferably Cornwall.
