Re: Who the Hell do Mircrosoft think they are
We had that happen on one of our machines, luckily not the CMC as it took ages to install just like yours did. We couldn't understand how it had happened as we were careful to always close down the pop up boxes, but on this particular day the pop up had given 2 choices - schedule for installation that day, or reschedule for a convenient time. The person turning on the PC hadn't read it, they'd just closed the pop up box. That left the default as install that day, so that's what it did! No way to undo it but luckily it hasn't caused any problems.
We did check with our pricing software company in case of problems, but that works on Windows 10 so that's fine. And we checked with Valiani Support Group (aka Merlin ) and that was all fine too. The only problem would be if you were still using FMD as that isn't supported anymore, but if you upgrade to V-Studio that should work.
Hope you get it sorted

Hi
Managed to get V-Studio to work, but every time we are in Smart Cut, and try to open up a file , get a error that smart cut has stopped work and need to close,
so we have to open each file in create then send to cut,
Going have to roll back over the weekend as can't afford any more down time

I have installed GWX Control Panel on those computers that I do not wish to "upgrade" to Windows 10.
Works a treat.

Ours installed halfway through printing. It's complete madness, I wish I'd known how to stop it before. No matter how many times you click No Thanks, it just goes ahead without permission.

I have got the answer, having my old laptop rebuilt with windows 7 back on it and an ssd to give to the wife and making sure the replacement has windows 7 on it.

Rolled back to Windows7 and downloaded GWX Control Panel, now everything is at peace with the world

You will probably find that they have a get out of jail free card which allows them to shaft you royally that you have agreed to by mearly looking at the software. I doubt they would have had the roll out if they potentially thought that however may milion users world wide could potentially sue them.
But there again they may have thought themselves to big and untouchable...
Isn't that what the Volkswagon board probably thought

Let us know how that goes for you!
Seven of the Eight PC's in our shop run on Windows XP...so we get the annoying "No Support" message is all...
...but one has Windows 7 on it, and that is a concern. Thanks John for the advice about GWX Control Panel which I will explore. Any issues of it conflicting with any other apps?
Timely information, as we just received a warning Email from our POS software company, SpecialtySoft - FramePro about issues of compatibility problems with Windows 10.

John:
Been running GWX control panel on a couple of “mission critical” Windows 8 machines for four or five months now and have not noticed any issues, so far. However, as with all Windows applications, you never know when something unexpected is going to creep up and bite you on the bum.
BTW - if ever you feel the need to upgrade your software and also run it on any windows PC (Win98 to Win10), just let me know.

Now, I believe that you are making reference to POS software...sadly, unless you subscribe to the U.S. moulding vendors for automatic price updates, this would be a difficult switch.JohnMcafee wrote: ...BTW - if ever you feel the need to upgrade your software and also run it on any windows PC (Win98 to Win10), just let me know.

Not a problem, John.
We currently supply moulding vendors' tables for UK, Australia, South Africa, USA, and also several eurozone suppliers, and can add other countries and vendors as required. Vendors (regardless of country) can arrange to automatically update their tables on our system daily, notifying their customers of changes in stock availability, prices, etc.(EstLite feature since 2001)

Re: Who the Hell do Mircrosoft think they are
This may seem daft, but you can run a PC without the internet.
Or can you not?
I had my old PC re-formatted and installed XP. I used to strike it up now and then
and got an endless stream of "cannot connect to the internet" messages.
I didn't want it to connect to the internet. It's my PC and I'll do what I ############ing like with it.

We have a computer no network connections, its sole purpose is to drive the CMC.
The job it does is too important to risk the potential malware threat.
