Which UV glass?

I don't do that much specialist glass so when a customer wants some I go for cut to size rather than keeping any in stock. I need to order some UV glass and have in the past used TruVue Conservation Clear but never really liked the red tint. Is anyone using the new Artglass Preservation Clear UV99?

How does it compare with the TruVue? Cheers

We swapped over to ArtGlass versions a while ago and much prefer it. Easier to clean and offers the same protection. We don't use any of the Tru Vue glass now.

Thanks, that's good to know. I've used the Artglass AR in the past so will give the UV a go. Just one thing, is the UV Clear coated on one side (like the TRuVue) so requires fitting in the frame the correct way?

We use TruVue from Wessex, GL55, I was told it could fit the frame either way? Certainly we have been using it for 2 years and I have never noticed a right or wrong way.

Nick, GL55 is UltraVue and I do know it can be cut and fitted in the frame either way. It's just a few of the TruVue products that are coated on one side.

It looks like we have two basically different glass types under discussion in the thread -

UV, as in TV Cons Clear or Artglass Pres Clear, both claiming 99% uv protection.
I haven't used the Artglass but TVCC is 2.5 mm, one sided, red tint edge, prone to scratching if mishandled and extremely reflective.

AR (anti reflective) as in TV AR70/Ultravue/GL55 or Artglass AR/GL30, about double the price of above uv glass.
Likewise I haven't used the Artglass but think it can be used either way as gl55.
Both brands offer varying degrees of uv protection starting at 70% right up to AR UV99

Simplest way to avoid any confusion is check the price.... expect to pay 4 times as much for AR UV99 (gl360) compared to UV99 (gl391). If in any doubt a quick call to Wessex would be my option.

John, are you referring to the difference between absorptive and reflective UV coatings? I know that TruVue Con Clear uses an absorption coating but I also believe Artglass Preservation Clear UV99 uses an absorption coating as well. I believe that some of the TruVue and Artglass products use reflective UV coatings e.g. Ultra Vue and Artglass AR. To my understanding, the absorption coatings offers the best protection from UV light at all angles whereas the reflective coating only offers maximum protection when the light enters the glass at 90 degrees.

A sponge absorbs water, but it can only absorb so much before it let's the water flow through, how much UV light can TruVue Con Clear absorb before it leaks UV light

We only use TruVue Con Clear, so I'm not trying to put it down, just wondered if it's possible to over absorb UV light

Light isn't water. It is photons (or waves, but lets stick to photons).

Black paper absorbs photons too. How much light do you have to expose a sheet of black paper to before it starts acting like a torch?

The photons turn into heat when they are absorbed, so they are no longer able to be emitted as light.
