Morso or Hansen
Hi There
Just joined the board and looking forward to reading everyones opinions and thoughts...........
Also on the lookout for a reasonably priced Morso(Preferable....) or Hansen Guillotine. Tried ebay, and the way things are going, shouldn't be too long before they are fetching more second hand than new......
Maybe Morso are the new Diablo......
Buy it in December for £1200, and sell it second hand in July for £4,000..
Anyway would be interested should anyone in the UK, be able to help.....
Best Regards and once again looking forward to reading the boards

Hi Jeyelle,
Good to have you on board.
Like you, I have also noticed that it pays to keep your wits about you when dealing on eBay, and never assume that the items there will be better value than you can obtain elsewhere.
It can often be worthwhile to mention to your suppliers' representatives that you are looking for equipment. Very often they will hear about stuff that other framers are selling and are happy to put you in touch with them without getting involved with the actual sale.
Please forgive me for asking the obvious.

Hi Folks,
I have just had a long talk (email) with Claus from Morso and the already great machine will be made even better in the very near future. Their research department are working on some problems as we speak.
1. New rebate supports, made for deeper mouldings, and made slightly longer to accomodate some problems framers have.
What I am emailing him back with to make it even better, is the following:
1. The fence should have a drilled metal dowel, to ensure that once the fences are perfectly set, the fences dont move (Cassese have this)
2. the Rebate supports should be closer to the blades, say about 1/2 - 1mm away from the blade, this will solve a whole lot of problems, of little bits of moulding being left .....
3. I had thoughyt of spring loaded rebate supports, until I hear that cassese have lots of problems with theirs and too much can go wrong.
Anybody got any other suggestion gow to make this good old workshorse...even better??? Let me know.
Steven

Dear Steven
Will these improvements be capable of retro fitting to older machines?

Hi Elfyn,
To be perfectly honest, I do not know, but I will ask and get back to you ASAP.
How old is your machine?
I think, if the running trough for the rebate supports is the same, they should work, but please do not quote me on that, having said that, last Wednesday we had a Branch meeting of the Guild here, and covered complete maintenance of a Morso that just happened to be over 40 years old (it was born in 1962) and changed the bottom blades that included the rebate support trough, and it worked???? Is that anywhere near an answer without committing myself?
Talk soon,
Steven

The arm that moves the cutting head back and forth could be made of something a tad harder so that the ratchet does not wear it down to nothing (and eventually right through!)Anybody got any other suggestion gow to make this good old workshorse...even better??? Let me know.

Hi Jeyelle,
I think, although not sure, that everyone changing tack ever so slightly was a subliminal message that, basically there are no second hand Morso's available. You could try the following people:
Framers Corner - Leicestershire, 01530 516925, ask for Sam Cook
Framers Equipment - Northhamptonshire, dont know any details at the present, I am on a different computer
Mita-Craft in Lincoln, again, cant get at their details
CP Productions Ltd, Northern Ireland +44 28 92601436, ask for Colin
Also try the recent edition of ABt, Art Business Today, try looking on the following website, they have a for sale section.. http://www.fineart.co.uk
or
The PictureBusiness trade magazine
Dermot a regular on this forum has, or had one a few weeks ago, try emailing him
Unfortunately (for you) second hand Morso's are hard to get hold of, you can get them if people retire, upgrade, etc., but most tend to hold onto good machines, ....they are likened to an old fiddle, the older they are, thet better they get......
Good hunting!
Steven
