That's a really nice effect and I think that the effect has plenty of potential for variations on the same technique. Have you looked into using iridescent paints as well as metallic paints.
I bought various colours of iridescent paints just to try them out, this was perhaps a couple of years ago, maybe more. I was told about them by another framer, who told me to mix them with black. The black paint that I chose to use was process black, which is a transparent black and the results were very classy looking, with the iridescent effect varying with both the viewing angle and the way in which the moulding catches the light.
To date, I have not made a frame using this effect, mostly because my health has not been too good these last couple of years. However your finger painting technique might be the inspiration to make me do something about this.
