Starting out recommendations?

prospero is correct I paid £0.01 (plus postage) for my copy two years ago when I joined the FF. In some areas it is a little dated but mostly it's well worth the read.

When it first came out I bought 10 copies of Pete Bingham's book and gave them away to distributors/framers in developing countries.

Fond memories of Cambodia - just 8 framers and only 1 Logan mat cutter in the country. A country with no distributors so framers had to import supplies, mostly from Thailand.

The Logan wasn't used because the framer couldn't understand the instruction " Always use a slip mount"
I showed him how to cut a mount using a slip mount. and he was totally blown away. Small things like this made my day!

I established a distributor in Cambodia so framers didn't have to drive the 10 hours to Bangkok to get supplies.
I've seen framers in Asia dismantling old bicycle chains to recycle parts as a one piece D ring.

You UK framers are so lucky - plentry of distributors - loads of choice - next day delievery to your door, 2 Framers Forums, Art & Framing Today, F.A.T.G. Wessex Road shows etc etc to name just a few benefits to being in UK.

Thanks for the tips, will look at the books, looking for training using the morso and underpinner etc...
Also looking at the Wessex courses, but will have to wait till next year now.
Otherwise will crack on with chopping up all the huge pile of moulding we got with the tools for practice, plus mount boards etc

It's interesting seeing Pete Bingham and Jan Stanwick mentioned in the same thread. Pete Bingham and Jan's dad ran Magnolia Mouldings machinery and equipment department many many years ago. Peter and Jan Stanwick must have grown up in this business and Peter is the one who goes out fixing peoples equipment. There are lots of interesting connections in this business.
