Flat slip or similar to cover edges of painting

Post by framing150 »

Reframing an old oil painting, however the previous frame had a far wider rebate than current choice, leaving a visible difference in where the atmosphere and light has changed the colours vs part hidden under the rebate previously (also yes I know there is filling to do!). Any suggestions on a flat slip in the same distressed gold to solve this and extend the rebate to cover the area? UK based re suppliers

The slip should be a simple flat profile to follow on from the ribbed sight edge on the frame.
R&H do some finished slips. Matching the tone might be a bit of a problem.
You could just paint the slip white otherwise.

There are any number of flat gold slips in supplier's ranges. They all carry them in variations.
The 'number 6' is a flat about 16mm wide with a coved edge. 7 is about 20 and 9 about 30. That is how I know them.
Suppliers have there own nomenclature. These are bog-standard gold but there are nicer finishes.
They can be 'distressed' to suit.

You can use a fillet, but a slip is preferable. :)

thank you for the suggestions, managed to find some options hidden away under mouldings rarely used. The silver works well, tricky to match the gold trim on this Flagship moulding.. https://ibb.co/k4rs7MS
