Question about Keen cut Excalibur 5000 board cutter

Post by boscawen46 »

Hi ,
I am looking to buy a Keen cut Excalibur 5000 board cutting machine.
I will only be using it for cutting grey 1.5 mm backing board sheets. A few questions please :

Can the horizontal support bar be moved to a higher position ? If not could something be put onto this to in effect make the support area higher ?

How many of the aforementioned boards together would it comfortably cut in one go and not to over do it with the machine ?.
Once assemble is the whole machine heavy? Could it be carried by two people ?
Thanks in advance
James

The horizontal bar is bolted to the vertical bar, so no.

The legs are extendable though - I’m not sure what the max height of the horizontal bar would be at maximum extension but if still too low you could make a stand for it. However - you still have to be able to reach the start of the cut - and have the ceiling height.

I wouldn’t cut more than two sheets of greyboard in one pass, it’s very dense, but using the ratchet and doing it in stages, you could go almost up to the blade depth.

Here’s the manual.

The legs can be extended yes and you could alway seat the legs in wooden blocks for extra height.

But raising the machine would make reaching the upper two-wheel cutter block very difficult unless you are very tall
or have very long arms. Mine sits nicely against an 8½' wall. Raising the horizontal bar would mean a higher wall would
be in order.
