As in Japanese hand made papers, the first widely available was rice paper by Windsor and newton back in the 70s which I used to use of cause I was using that as a general term as there are many more plant fibre papers available like Kozo which I use on my courses.
Kind regards

Kozo is mulberry.

I understand that “rice paper” is used as a generic description of most any Asian paper/tissue for applications like this, but to avoid having to explain to people it’s not actually made from rice - because there’s rice paper and “rice paper” it’s best to avoid the term IMO.

Japanese tissue/paper is the term I used, then further qualified by what it’s actually made from but I only ever used 100% hand made kozo, I believe tapes of any description have no place in conservation framing, not in contact with the art anyway.

Lots of useful and interesting information on this thread, but I think it’s probably run its course now and risks going beyond that. Hence I’ve now locked the topic.
