Dry mounting large photos

Post by Thewhitewallgallery »

Hi,

I normally dry mount large photos by hand using MB/key 90 from D&J Simons. Never really had any issues and it’s been fairly simple over the years.

Recently I’ve started to get large volumes of large photos to dry mount (50 size A0 at a time )and was wondering what would be the better option going forward,

What method would be better and less time consuming etc.

Many thanks
Matt

A cold or hot roll lamination machine is a second alternative.

50 A0's, you need a motorised laminator.

I'm still running a decade plus old DryTac JM44. Two people can flood coat a box of 1000x1400 KapaMount in around half an hour, one person in perhaps an hour and a half. Mounting prints, perhaps 50-100% longer. MB/key/90 looks a touch small for A0, but is substantially less expensive than KapaMount, though possibly not as smooth for gloss prints.

Work shop layout can make a huge huge difference to production speed - in-feed, trimming and out-feed.

Last time I spoke to Steve Goddall, I believe he recomended either EasyMount or Seal laminators, as DryTac no longer offer large format laminating machinery.
