Float frame moulding UK
Hi. I'm Robert from London. I have just started framing with machinery (Morsø etc). Previously made my frames from scratch. I'm just learning that all mouldings are not equal and trying to match up a sample from a prospective client near impossible! I'm supplied by Wessex but my first enquiry came in and they don't have the mouldings. I've tried every supplier Google allows me to see and still no joy. I'm after an Obeche float moulding L: 38mm W: 33mm R: 26mm and a Walnut veneer L: 30mm W: 15mm R: 25mm. Is there an industry or trade journal I can find decent suppliers? Any words of wisdom...or should I just let it be!

Hi Robert, and welcome
There are so many mouldings out there that I generally avoid even offering to match completely. If you do find the exact one from another supplier you will end up paying delivery charges which can cut your profits.
You mentioned making moulding from scratch - I do often copy or adapt mouldings to make what I want - that may be an option.
As for suppliers, you've checked Wessex, so look at the other likely contenders
Centrado
D&J Simons
Larson Juhl
Rose & Hollis
Lion
Mainline Mouldings
Ashworth & Thompson
Good luck

Many thanks for your reply. I'll check the other suppliers mentioned and push forward with having my own wood milled.

Rose and Hollis specialise in barewoods, but actually for a barewood Obeche float frame you'll find Lion's do a better range atm. Also consider turning a moulding on its side or upside down and building your own with an mdf backing, if that works for the project.
