Hi everyone,

I have just joined the Forum and would like to introduce myself please!

My name is Vivian, and I owned my own picture framing business in Ireland until 2011 when I sold it to take early retirement. The venture was very successful and I absolutely loved framing. I gained my GCF in 2006.

I moved back to the UK but lost my dear wife some four years ago to Motor Neurone Disease. It has taken me a long time to adjust to living happily again.

Recently, a relative asked me if I could take a look at a couple of pictures where the frames needed refreshing. They just needed new mounts and glass. Fortunately I still had a spare mountcutter tucked away in the garage; I really loved refreshing those two frames, which got me thinking....!

I found this forum and noticed the Adverts/Sales/Wants section. From that I purchased two secondhand machines, and have just bought an underpinner on eBay.

So now I'm looking forward to framing again. Just from home as a hobby and past time really; framing for myself, friends and relations etc.

I guess the love for this kind of work never leaves you ...!

I'm looking forward to reading posts from other members. It's nice to be able to get advice, and also help others.

I always found in the past that the profession was a very friendly one.

With best wishes to all.

Thanks very much for your welcomes folks. It's nice to be back. I'm currently setting up my small workshop having purchased a few used machines (thanks also to both @+Rafe+ and @M8djt for help and advice).

Hello Vivian
I haven’t been on ‘the forum’ for probably two years! Just looking at the posts and the ‘Ireland’ word caught my eye.
Good to see you have caught the bug again.
Trust it all goes well

Thanks RMN.

I loved my time in Ireland. Spent 15 very happy years there (my wife was Irish; we actually met in London). It was she that wanted to retire back to the UK hence my return. I'm just this week setting up my small framing workshop having been fortunate in acquiring a (hardly) used underpinner the other day.

Glad I found this forum. Folk seem friendly and helpful - those in the profession generally are.
