Glue! and as few wedges as you can get away with. A good quality PVA in a bottle so that it can be applied easily. I also smear the glue over the joint and let it dry - applying more glue before joining. I like to know that if I have to break a joint apart its going to take some effort.

Hiya, ancient thread here but wanted to know how you guys remove the glue from the timber frame after been in a band clamp?

You have not identified the moulding being raw wood or a prefinished moulding.
There should not be any excess glue on the surface of the frame moulding after it dries if you wipe off any "squeeze out" when the glue is still wet.

After the joined frame has dried glue, it can be scraped off, sanded down, or softened a bit sometimes with some moisture and a rag or paper towel.
