Stacking V-Nails

Post by greyheron »

Hi there,
I'm having trouble stacking v-nails. I have a AM U200p so it doesn't have the bottom moulding clamp part. I first press the pedal and the top clamp sits on top of the moulding, when I fire the v-nails in succession, the first two never stack but the 3rd one gets pushed up to effectively make a double stack...does anyone else have this issue? Not sure what I'm doing wrong - driving me mental! Thanks

I think it's a common occurrence tbh. I just use the longest v nail I can, like 15mm and clamp overnight. I've never managed to regularly successfully stack wedges! The alternative is the Hoffmann dovetail router.

It sounds as though the mechanism that pushes the wedges forward isn't doing it well enough or in time so it is missing out the second wedge.
If you wait a bit longer in between wedges does that work?
What about if you manually push them forward after the first wedge?
My underpinner spring that pushes them forward has lost a bit of its springiness, so now if I get down to around 10 wedges it stops pushing them forward so at that point I add more in.

Thanks guys, much appreciated! Yeah I’ve just ordered the 15mm wedges and cartridge so might have to do that if it carries on.

Re allowing more time between wedges, I’ll give this a go in the morning …hopefully it has something to do with it!!

Thanks guys 🙏🏻

I don't bother trying to stack more than 2 x 12mm wedges, except perhaps in V soft wood like obeche for a very deep frame like the box profile I use for football shirts.
