Unsure if originally post was successful so apologies if repeated, trying again without attachments
Good Afternoon
A client bought in some canvases for reframing over the weekend all pretty straight forward except one which was a little worse for wear around the edges (see pic attached) including protruding nails
I would be greatful for any advice as to most suitable adhesive and method to use to get the canvas as flat as possible and to stay as such to ensure when in the tray the lines are as neat as possible and the canvas edge sits parallel with the inside facing of the moulding
Thank you in advance
Kind Regards
Neal

Re: Repair of canvas edge before framing
I wouldn't consider any adhesive as suitable for a job like this because it would make any future work like repairs/restretching very difficult. I'm only going by what I can see, so I would staple the canvas all around, below the nails and if there is enough to staple to the back of the stretcher I'd do that too.

I would go with what justintime has suggested, how much space are you allowing for the tray frame gap?
You could always fit a spacer around the outside sides of the canvas this will cover the nails and canvas sides to tidy things up.

Thank you both for prompt reply and noted your advice
Stapes sounds like a plan, clients wants a narrow gap max 10mm I will certainly explore option of fixing a thin spacer as it would give a nice clean finish
Much appreciated

Re: Repair of canvas edge before framing
A tray frame has its place in picture framing for the display of stretched painting that have been painted to cover the edges that are attached to stretcher bars.
Your example does not have painted edges and as such is not a candidate for a tray frame. The exception would be if the owner of the art allows this edge to be painted.

I agree with you there, but you get some customers that just want stuff
Thats where a spacer would help in this situation,
