Float mounting a book

Post by Jon_Brooke »

A customer would like me to float mount a paperback book on a box frame.

I'm thinking of using a melinex sheet wrapped around the book from top to bottom inside of the front cover and then through slots in the mount board behind the book + a bit of acid free gummed tape to hold the cover shut.

There's no financial value to the book.

Anyone have any thoughts?

The first bit you’ve described with the melinex is half of the clear film book/magazine mount method
To complete it just wrap another sheet around the whole thing in the other direction and stick it to itself behind with DS tape, that keeps the cover shut and also prevents the book from sliding to the left. Tape might also do that but gummed tape won’t stick to melinex, it would need to be DS tape or something with a spirit based adhesive and either could fail over time.
