Keencut excalibur 5000 glass cutting wheel holder

Post by AtelierFrames »

I have a on old excalibur 5000 which does a great job, however I am struggling to find replacement glass cutting wheels that fit the original holder. I bought the cutter a few years back and it came with some spare cutting wheels, but when I try to fit newly purchased cutting wheels, they won't fit, and if I do manage to get the wheel in the holder, it pinches it too tight that the wheel doesn't turn.

Attached are a few pics showing my cutting wheel holder, and you can see from the other picks that the replacement holder available from lion is a completely different size, even though it's for the excalibur 5000 (assuming a modern version).

I have contacted Keencut direct and they only supply the larger holder what I can get from Lion.

Does anyone know where I may be able to get new cutting wheels that are the same shape, just a fraction smaller.

The last resort would be to see if I can file the slot of the aluminium block to that the wheels fit (without ruining it altogether).

Thanks

So why not get the larger holder from Lion?

The larger holder doesn't fit into the cutting head device (it has a slot for the glass cutting wheel holder, a scoring blade and a blade for cutting mount board.)
I can buy a replacement multi cutting device at +£500 which I want to avoid.

Still can't attach photos so makes it difficult to show what I mean.

Some of us have a broader background beyond just this industry.
The glass cutting industry does sell the actual wheels and the axles that go into the holders. The axles(pins) are pushed/pressed out and the wheel simply drops out. A new wheel in placed in the holder and a new pin is inserted into the hole where the old axle was.

Thanks JFeig. I thought they were a fixed unit so will have a go at taking the pin and wheel out of the old one and see if the new wheel will slot it. The both look the same but the new one is just a fraction wider . It's worth a go though.

Thanks.

As you can see from their website, there are many different specifications for these wheels and axles. Measure twice, order once with proper micrometer or calipers for the exact size needed. This includes the scoring angle of the wheels.
