Perhaps it's the arid Belfast climate, but I have never collected a single drop of water in any of the water filters scattered throughout our compressed air system.
A fair bit collects in the main tank which gets drained periodically.
Is this unusual? Are these filters really necessary?

Hi John, Water filters or i suppose water traps are I think just really a back up system in case anything happens with the compressor much like a smoke alarm is in a household, some of them also have a container that had oil that is mixed with the air going to a machine or mount cutter just adding a drop every so often. The fact that you never get water in your trap means that your compressor is drying the air as it reaches the trap. We had a problem last year using a back up machine for a few days, which meant running an air line 100 feet away from the compressor and that allowed the air to cool and form water droplets, being without the water trap would have caused alot of time wasting and major problems. We dont get water in any of the traps now either, that was just a once off case, but the fact that you dont either is a good thing. But having said that i would never take a water trap off of any machine, it costs nothing to have it there but it may end up saving your money and downtime. Sorry about any bad spelling , i cant find the spell checker.

Hi Lemon_Drop,
Welcome to the forum, and many thanks for the feedback.
I'm glad to see that these traps do serve a practical function, not just a theoretical one.
If you have a read through the forum, you will see that none of us are really big on spelling, so don't worry, you are goingg to fit right in.
