Went to Arundel the other Sunday - there's a shop there that specialises in miltaria. It was shut - went back today and took a photo of their opening times.
I have a very well-used bit of paper that can be folded to display different messages:
"Back in a mo" = (gone to post office)
"Back Shortly" = (gone to the bank)
"Working in backyard >>>>>" = (trying to find a bit of moulding)
"the gallery is closed today, please go the side door and ring bell" = (The workshop has overflowed and I don't want a lot of gawpers putting their size nines on the frames spread all over the floor.)
** The "Open All Day Except When Closed" came from Dave Allen. (May his God rest his soul) Another one of his little gems was a sign outside a graveyard somewhere in Ireland....
"Only dead people living in the area can be buried here"
