Help need to frame 4' by 3' poster paint picture

Post by johns »

Can anybody help What thickness of styrene that would support itself over this area because I have tried various sizes and they all bow too much in the middle but it needs to be plastic as it is to go in a school and the frame cannot be too heavy I want to use 33mm moulding any ideas as to whether this will work. I have never done such a large picture before.

I only use scratchproof acrylic, I think it's 3mm and is fine over that size, non-scratchproof would be much cheaper. Give Glass and mirror a ring

I wouldn't have thought a 33mm moulding would be up to that size, unless, possibly it's aliminium. Wouldn't like the look of such a small moulding on a large picture either. But if it's light and screwed to the wall as well it could be OK .

Here's a different way of looking at it; why not mount the poster directly to the wall and then use some of Luminati's Wall Mounts http://www.luminati.co.uk/products.php?p=9_1 to hang a piece of ArtShield or similar acrylic in front of the artwork, no frame necessary and weight not an issue! Just make sure the acrylic overlaps the poster enough not to allow 'sticky fingers' to reach underneath
