Prefetch = 7

In an idle moment the other day I thought I'd consult the internet on how to get my computer to start up a bit faster. It's been getting slower and slower by the week. Anyway I found a hint about upping the value of prefetch in the registry . It seemed to be a lot better at 5 instead of the default 3. So on the basis that if a little works then more will work better I upped it to 7. DO NOT DO THIS!! I have spent the last three days re-installing my C Drive as my imaging program flatly refused to do a restore for me. Actually I am now quite pleased with my efforts as I have not got the Junk that used to infest it before and everything now works incredibly well. It is a bit annoying to find you haven't got that little application that used to be quite handy, but on the whole it wasn't quite the disaster it seemed at the time. Fortunately ALL my data is on another drive. Moral - don't mess with what you haven't got a clue about.
