Painting plastic trays.

Post by Not your average framer »

I've got a project on the go which requires plastic trays to be inserted into the back of a picture frame. Unfortunately these trays are not a very nice colour, so I'm hoping to repaint them. I've not been able to find out what type of plastic they are made out of, which may not help. Any suggestions for a suitable paint?

Thanks in anticipation,
Mark.

I think it's a case of try it and see. It's most likely to be hi-impact styrene or ABS, in which case celluose spray is the best bet as the thinners will etch itself into the surface. It's not likely to be polythene/polyprop. It could be a Nylon or acetal based polymer. That might be more tricky.
