Unbelievably amateurish.
What a disappointment.

Saw some of it , my 16 year old son summed it up by saying after the first 10 minutes ' I thought this was supposed to be funny?'

Re: Who watched the new Red Dwarf?
One vaguely redeeming feature: No laff track.
That gave it the feel of a movie. I know a movie has been in the pipeline for years (and years and years....). If it hasn't happened by now then it's a good bet that it never will. All which leads me to believe that they cobbled together any scripts/ideas that had been prepared and made it for TV.
In spite of all the hi tech CGI stuff, the whole thing had the look of a sixth-form school project.
I notice neither of the Hollys made an appearance. (Wise move on their part)
WTH was all the Blade Runner stuff all about?
And worst of all, a Knot is a unit of speed. So how can you have 80 Knots an hour?

Would yield a fairly leisurely nought-to-sixty time though. Unlikely to impress Jeremy Clarkson.

Seems that I'm better off for having missed it. Sounds as though it's doing for the original what TV and movie versions did for Hitchhikers' (both of which I elected not to watch, for fear of destroying my love for the radio shows - and any reports I subsequently heard about the "visually rendered" versions always led me to the conclusion that my choice was a smart move!).barefaced framer wrote:Saw some of it , my 16 year old son summed it up by saying after the first 10 minutes ' I thought this was supposed to be funny?'

You are dead right about the HHGTTG movie.
Mind you...... Watch Thou for the new Reggie Perrin.
I caught a glimpse of a trailer tonight and only escaped by amputating my left leg.

Re: Who watched the new Red Dwarf?
Knots and Nautical miles are good old navy terms. The nautical mile was based on the circumference of the earth at the equator. Since the earth is 360 degrees of longitude around, and degrees are broken into 60 so-called "minutes", that means there are 360 * 60 = 21,600 "minutes" of longitude around the earth. If anyone ever asks you how far is it around the earth, you can quickly do the math in your head (360 degrees * 60 minutes per degree) and answer "about 21,600 nautical miles!"
Using the definition of a nautical mile for distance at sea, the challenge was to measure speed -- i.e. what is the ship's speed in nautical miles per hour? (By the way, the nautical mile is about 1.15 larger than the "statute" mile used by land lubbers.) Since [speed] = [distance] divided by [time], if we measure a small distance (or length) in a small time we can do the math and figure our speed.
Therefore:
80 knots = 92.0623558 mph
