Springfair Anyone?

Post by Jonny2morsos »

Just thought I would see who's going to Springfair this year.

For a number of years we have been Sunday then stopped the night in a hotel and gone back again Monday. I am undecided about this year. If I do go it will be a day trip on the Monday only.

With a less to see last year and even less this year (Lion not going) and a far from inspiring seminar programme I might not bother at all.

So what's the forum view?

John.

Shame about LION not going, not too sure what to expect this year :? I normally go on a Sunday, I was thinking about staying in a Hotel Sunday night and going Monday as well, undecided at the moment.
I did pickup a very good deal on a Hotpress from Simons last year, saved myself about £400

I may be in the market for a Valiani CMC, I can't really justify it, I'll have to see how generous Simons are feeling this year.

cheers,

I might go for the Sunday, staying over the Sat night, but if I do it will be mainly for the gift halls and to see what Simons' show offers/new mouldings are. Problem I have is the M40, I can't resist flooring it - speeds that get you a ban - and one day I'll get caught.

Well, used one's don't come up very often, especially with techie support - s'pose you've seen John (Merlin) is selling one?

Thank you for the plug Robo.

Bagpuss. Yes my CMC is still for sale. Although presently 10 people are 'watching' it on Ebay.

Yes, I am sure you will get some sort of 'show' deal through Simons. Yet do not forget to add on approx £425 for training and installation. Than add the VAT (17.5%)..

I will provide the training free for you before you pack it up and take it away.
My CMC is just over 12 months old. In excellent condition and only £8200. I doubt Simons will beat that.

Thanks for the heads up, that sounds like a good price, I had seen your advert, unfortunately I'm hoping that I might be able to do some sort of trade in deal with Simons on my Mat-Pro 120 ( with Oval mountcutter attachment ). Will have to sound them out... out of interest, what made you sell after 12 months ? upgrade ?

John’s (Merlin’s) experience with his Valiani has been exceptional, his business for mounts has grown at a super rate which now allows him to upgrade to one of the bigger/faster Valani’s.

I would at a guess think you might do better selling your 120 privately (perhaps through this forum) than you will get on a trade in, however who knows what Simons might do, a quick call to Joe should get you a an answer to this.

John did my training which was excellent and his support since he was over with me has been super, he is very quick to respond to any query I have had.

Good luck with your move to a CMC, you wont regret it.

If you want to see a Valiani in action come along to the Framer Forum Get-together on the 28th March.
A real life Valiani will be on display and expertly demonstrated by our very own Merlin (who is a black belt in Valiani)

We aren't going this year, we are preferring to support The Framers Forum get together, as it will have a more exclusive selection of exhibitors who won't be spring fairing! - Lion & Ashworth & Thompson

I wont be going. Last year just about finished it for me. The framing section was so small they had sectioned it off to a small area in the middle of a big hall. I shall be going to the framers forum get together - it will be so much more select.

I'm planning to go on Tuesday, (weather and health permiting), but I won't be staying long, as I'm only looking at framing suppliers.

I think there might be a lot to be learnt by going. After all there is likely to be some rationalisation of suppliers ranges in response to what's not selling in these difficult times.

Some of my existing moulding displays are looking like it's time for a change of direction. Also during our present difficult times there may be more discontinued mouldings on clearance deals than usual and with a hint from one rep that there's a lot of new items to see, on balance I think this year is not likely to be one to miss.

Don't think I'll bother this year. I'm sure I could find something more productive to do for a day. I might even have a day out with the wife!

I'm looking forward to going, because as a newcomer to the fraternity I want to see as much as possible and also meet some of the arty people who I may contact in the future. I'm looking forward to seeing Sam from Framers Corner who I bought the Wizard from - I've a list of questions and have booked on one of FC's seminars. Wessex have supplied me with some stuff and are on my list - I'm keen to see their pricing software and again meet those who to date are just a voice on the phone. Next FATG - I've mixed (more like uninformed)views on the Guild but as a member of a few professional bodies never decry their worth. I'd also like to find out a bit more about glass. So, for me with no previous experience it's a positive..........and there's more!

My wife has wants yes wants to go so she can look round other bits of the exhibition, so it's a day out for us both and finally there's a DIY tools exhibition in some other halls - if there's going to be any divergence of opinion it'll be there.

Going Sunday with dear wife, Monday solo via Lion.

Possible buys: software package, fillet master, tag gun (shirts).
Do not be afraid of strangers, for thereby many have entertained angels unawares.
