Frame sealing
Hi All.
Framing mostly for fellow Artists (140 members in our local Art Society) for our annual exhibitions, mainly the ones that had been using frames from Wilko's.
I have been using Kraft self adhesive sealing tape for the past few years but getting a few complaints recently.
How do you rate Eco tape (self adhesive).
These are the only two on my suppliers list.
Morso guillotine
Keencut system 4000 for glass and backing cutting.
Foot operated underpinner
Plus a Morso Jointer to assist with the tricky framing mitres.
Good tip picked up off the forums, to prime the mitres with a thin coat prior to joining.thanks.

Re: Frame sealing
Hi Gangy, welcome along to the forum.
We use ECO 25+ ( the slightly thicker ECO tape) and have no complaints. I'd avoid the Eco 15.. it's just a little flimsy
although puritans on the forum may say that all self adhesive tape is bad, and we should use lickysticky. We think it is perfectly fine for the back of pictures.

Likewise we use ECO +25. With no complaints. I have my own samples completed 11 years ago and there is no sign of problems todate.

Re: Frame sealing
I use 'licky-sticky' tape - the stuff you have to wet - not because I'm a puritan but because I just like it, it looks the same (brown) it sticks the same*, it can be moved about/moulded in to the rebate when wet and is about 6x cheaper than self adhesive.
*It won't stick to some mouldings that are finished on the back and nor will it stick to water resistant backing boards, so I do keep a standard self adhesive tape - no idea which one though, and I also keep the posh self adhesive foil tape.
Which ever self adhesive tape you end up preferring, why not try a roll of licky-sticky anyway and see how you like it?
Welcom to the forum

Re: Frame sealing
That's OK if you don't let it dry - it's wood you want to stick; not glue - I'll try and find a link to explain in more detail, but that's the gist.gangy wrote:

Re: Frame sealing
Thanks for the welcome and rapid replies.
I tried the licky tape a few years ago but it let me down on certain framing, but I will certainly give it another go and thanks for the Eco info.

Re: Frame sealing
As Robo says, licky tape does not like sticking to some mouldings. You can encourage them by a quick rub over with sandpaper.
Lion do a nice black s/a tape rather like black masking tape. I use that sometimes on awkward stuff and on frames that have previously had s/a tape on them. It looks nicer than the brown stuff IMHO. Good for the backs of stand-up frames too. It's a tad pricey though.

Hi Gangy,
Welcome to the Forum,
You will find all your tape needs here.
http://www.framersequipment.co.uk/FEL_T ... t_2009.pdf
Also a another good tape is Sekisui pg 9 of the supplement.
Personally I don't think you can beat licky sticky tape, also for artist you can use it to stretch water colour paper.
Sticky tapes are just less messy more convenient and avoid dermatitis and ideal for most sealing jobs, I get on well with Sekisui but also use licky sticky which moulds well to shapes.
