The value of the Filletmaster

Post by norymags »

I am intersted to know what the opinion of the Filletmaster is from the Forum.

I have seen it advertised and have also watched the video but I have reservations ....perhaps if I had answers to the questions below then I might buy one as I seem to be using fillet more and more.

Has anyone purchased one yet ?

Are they a useful addition to the workshop ?

Are they worth the £150 quid, plus vat?

And more importantly can I live without it ?....Norrie

IMHO an expensive toy. Unless you are doing loads and loads of fillets.

I do about 4 a week and the trusty MORSO works just as well.

I am willing to learn though and also look forward to the replies.

The Filletmaster is one of the best pieces of equipment I have bought! If you only cut a few fillets a week or hundreds, it will save you time and money, no more trial and error stuff, just slide the scale to the opening of the mount and chop, its as simple as that. Fillets fit perfectly in seconds, miters line up with the angle of the mount. Most of the fillets I use will take a 3mm wedge, so pin them as you would an ordinary moulding. I seen that Lion had or still has a special offer on the FilletMaster with a fillet chopper. Just buy the fillermaster only you dont need the fillet chopper, I just use my Morso. I think John you must be thinking about something else, the filletmaster is a measuring device that transfers the opening of the mount to your morso. As for the question are they worth £150 plus vat. the only answer to that is yes. Its not and expensive toy. Here is the link to the demo. http://www.fletcher-terry.com/framing/f ... video.html
Its as easy and as fast as that guy doing the demo is doing it.
As for being a useful addition to your workshop, its yes again, it helps to sell more frames at a higher price, the fillet lenghts are cheap, but the finished product looks more expensive.Check out the Framers Grumble, nearly everyone on it is using the Filletmaster now. Ah! nevermind just buy one, you wont be sorry. I might get a job with Fletcher-Terry if they see this.

I hated spending that amount of money for a simple measuring device, but it certainly was worth every cent. I don't sell many fillets, but should. Even doing one fillet occasionally it's worth it for the time and frustration saving!

If you do fillets, you need one!

Thanks for all your contributions. I have since purchased a Filletmaster and I am very impressed apart from having to spend £170 on a wee bit of alloy

Having used it now for a week I am wondering how I managed without it because it cuts to perfection and I mean perfection.

I consider it a valuable piece of kit and would recommend it.

Thanks again.....Norrie

I know £170 seems like alot of money for a measuring device, but you will use more fillets with your frames and they really look alot more expesive then a double mount or v-groove so you can charge alot more, you will recover your costs is just a few frames, and its something you won't have to buy again. My three best buys for under £200, are the FilletMaster, John's frame pricing software and the ready mixed nori paste from FrameTek, all of them will save you time and make you money. I really thought that more people would give you feedback on the filletmaster, only two replies. Oh! Well.

Nori paste is no more - see post by J Feig

No way will FilletMaster increase my sales of fillets - that's my job, not some piece of meccano!

....and as I do so many of them and am anal about morso calibrations and measurements in general - I don't think it would increase my speed either.

I think it's a great bit of kit mind - and I may even buy one - for my framer - thing is, by the time he's found it and set it .... I would have it cut and made flush.

But not everyone frames to Robo Levels......

Lemondrop / Nori Paste

Post by Martin Harrold »

Just browsing on New Years day, while I put in yet more hours on the new catalogue. It's going up to 144 pages this time, with lots of new stuff.

Interesting comments about the FilletMaster. It just proves that it's not what something costs but what it does that really matters. The package of FilletMaster / Fillet Chopper will be offered again from February.

Less good news for you on Nori Paste. It's been withdrawn by the manufacturer, FrameTek. One of the best products they've developed, but sales, worldwide, have been so slow that their manufacturer has lost interest in making it. These things happen, sorry.
