Looking for bright silver and gold mountboards
Does anyone know of a supplier of a really bright silver and also a bright gold mountboard, ideally conservation but whitecore would be OK. I have colourmount samples of:
061 bright gold metallic and 062 bright silver metallic
But both are on standard neutral 'brown' core, I've had a look through some other colour charts but can only find dull metallics.
Thanks
Richard

I use Bainbridge and their gold and silver board has an etched or matt finish. Arqadia do a bright gold foil in white core 8247, the silver is rather matt though 8358. I haven't got my Crescent samplers to hand but they would be my next try.

Arqadia also do a 'stucco' and 'onyx' gold foil board - 8248 & 8597 respectively.

Re: Looking for bright silver and gold mountboards
the arqadia golds robo mentions are very bright along with gold foil 8247 (white core). There is a silver 8358 - ok but not quite as bright.
I use silver 361 from color mount - white core silver (did a silver anniversary mount recently). Looks greyish from a distance though I thought.
Britannia WBM5074 frosted silver looks more sparkly in the sampler and white core.

Re: Looking for bright silver and gold mountboards
Thanks for the ideas,
The gold foil from Arqadia is perfect, and out of the silvers theirs is probably the brightest, though not quite enough to get the bright, chrome effect I'm looking for. I am going to see if dry mounting some kitchen foil onto mountboard works!

I suspect that mountboard manufacturers may deliberately limit the brightness of gold and silver finishes, to avoid "orange peel" effects. This may be one of those things which you cannot easily overcome!
Have you considered applying gold leaf over gesso onto a mount? It's a lot of work to do it, but done right it would look fantastic!

If the silver mount is going to be an under mount then you could try doing a bevel wrap.
I would be careful using kitchen foil in a frame as, over time it may start to oxidise and have an adverse effect.

Thanks NYAF and JGF1!
The silver inner mount job needs doing for next week, so spoke to the customer and I am going to gild on the mountboard with silver leaf, don't know why I didn't think of that to begin with!
