World Cup Final Ticket
Had a customer bring in his world cup final ticket and he left me to decide what to do (as he normally does).
I know nothing about football and even had to use google to find out which teams played in the final!
Wondered if I could do the S African flag on the CMC but decided there were too many colours so this is what I came up with.

Re: World Cup Final Ticket
New to framing as you may well know, so a little shy about commenting but here goes anyway...
If I was the the customer here, I'd have the right hump frankly
The hexagonals are usually part of the structure of the ball and should therefor be placed equidistant. These look like random chosen shapes randomly plonked onto a white semicircle.
Worse still it's the wrong ball !!!!!!!!!!
The SA ball had a multi-coloured band around it.
I think this design was more like "Mexico 1970" or something.
Sorry,
Bear.

Actually just checked it out, its more like three coloured triangles rather than a band.

Re: World Cup Final Ticket
I did say I know nothing about football and I hope the customer doesn't get the hump. Actually I think he knows marginally more about football than me. If you look at the ticket it says "Thompson Holidays". The ticket was a freebie, I believe, as he is a director of a well known company who have extensive dealings with Thompson and other tour operators.
I did make the X dimension of the hexagon larger that the Y to try and give the illusion they were not on a flat surface. If my memory serves me correctly there are also 12 pentagons along with the 20 hexagons than create the spherical shape. This resembles the structure of an allotrope of carbon (C60) known as Buckmisnterfullerene (for what it is worth).

Re: World Cup Final Ticket
Hi there,
I am a football fan (as much as any person who supports West Ham can be!) and I think that that is a superb job. Granted, the football is not as the design of the Adidas football used at the world cup, but the balls change design from one world cup to the next and even the biggest fans will not be able to remember the last design. What you have done is use the traditional design that everyone, even people with little interest in football would recognise as a football.
I reckon you will have one happy customer.
Cheers
Nick

Re: World Cup Final Ticket
I think.what makes the design look slightly off is that on a football the pentagons are usually black, not the hexagons.
So if you had larger black pentagons properly spaced it would make it A1,but as it is it doesnt look at all bad.
All the best
Brian

Re: World Cup Final Ticket
Hmmm... I can see a Mk 2 version coming along as it would not be too hard to take the back off and separate the layers of mount and replace the "football".
So far I have not advised him via his Blackberry that the job is ready. Thanks to all of you for your input I now know as much about football as I ever wish to know.
Oh.. how did our boys do tonight by the way?

France 2 England 1
Don't you have a Valiani? There's at least 2 footballs in FMD.

Re: World Cup Final Ticket
Looks pretty good to me, as a graphic representation of a football, its instantly recognisable, and makes the subject of a ticket much more fun and interesting to me than with just a double mount.
I don't know how you would work it out, (it maybe simple on a CMC) but some V groves to define the white hexagons could look good, then the pentagons in black. Or could the ball on the ticket be replicated somehow, just with a single pentagon and with V groves coming from the 5 points.

Actually it was England 1 France 2. Don't want to get too pedantic but it is a huge differenceRoboframer wrote:France 2 England 1
Good for you J2M I'm glad you're considering a MK2 version. Unfortunately I know a lot more about football than I do framing so cant really help with the technicalities of MK2.
What I would say though, is that I would imagine that anyone framing a WC ticket would probably know a enough about football to appreciate having the correct ball represented.
However, I remember drinking a nice Merlot with a butter sauted Sea Bass once, and the world didn't stop spinning.....

Thinking about it, why can't we just use a downloaded photo of the correct ball?framemaker wrote:Good for you J2M I'm glad you're considering a MK2 version. Unfortunately I know a lot more about football than I do framing so cant really help with the technicalities of MK2.

Hi J2m,
If you do MK2 with the black pentagons, then it will match the ball on the ticket, so all elements are in balance. I like the concept you have come up with, I know nothing about football and I want to keep it that way

Re: World Cup Final Ticket
I see I'm in a minority of one
However, thinking about it still further, coupled with the proper ball I think I'd like to see the SA flag colours depicted more.
So maybe behind the ball, green? A red strip all round rather than the black, because we've already got the black in the frame? And maybe a white rather than cream mount?

Re: World Cup Final Ticket
I don't think he is a particular fan of football and as I said earlier the ticket was almost without doubt a freebie.
A while ago I framed a programme from the Bolshoi in Moscow for him and I don't recall seeing him in a Tutu.
