The things which customers say in their ignorance

Post by Not your average framer »

A lady has just been in with a watercolour painting fixed to the mount with short pieces of the gummed white perforated border from sheets of postage stamps asking me if I sell this special tape. :giggle:

A few months back a local gallery sent a member of staff to buy some of "those flat nails" for fixing the back into the frame. I was told that their framing expert had been called in to remove a flumb from inside a framed piece of art, while the customer was waiting to buy it. :giggle:

One that I seem to have had a few times recently and always comes as a bit of a slap in the face is ...
"Is this your full time job ?"
My real name is Adam Laver aka "Adam The Picture Framer", just in case you were unsure ; )

Had a (non) customer in today who wanted a "cheap frame".

She said " I could frame it my self, only I can't be bothered"

Needless to say we didn't gel, and she won't be coming back!

Recently we where unloading a lorry load of moulding with 2 hired help from my uncles removal business. A good friend of mine was helping also. In conversation, and ever the salesman, I showed the lads one of my picture portrait samples and they were impressed. I explained that that exact sample was responsible for hundreds of sales (from my door to door days), when one of them piped up "You could have used a better looking child". The guy couldn't find a hole big enogh to hide in when my friend informed him that it was his child in the picture. :Slap:
:-) Actually, I quite like plastic moulding. :-)

A couple of weeks ago a guy was asking for a quote for framing at my market stall and was pointing to one of my samples on display. After a while of going through the options he said "I don't think I'll need the blue thing with it" (a blue painted easel).

I think one of the best ones was a mountboard corner sample with washlines on.

"Can you get the same colour without the lines?"

or even better.....

"Have you got some not quite so wide?"
