Words can not describe the carnage caused by another framer to this lovely tapestry
I'll let the picture do the talking
Under the MDF backing - the artwork has been stretched and stuck down onto MDF with glue - then masking taped to the mount,
little MDF spacers have also been masking taped to the mount to pad the back out a little. .
It just came in for a reglaze - the tapestry is stuck down for it's life, and will be best left untouched. I'm going to replace all the taping as best as possible and remove any elements likely to cause future trouble. Not going to be an easy phone call to the customer though, informing them previous framer molested their tapestry..

Re: Speechless
I would not worry about the phone call as you did not do the damage. I had a cross stitch come in that was glued down a while ago and it had to go to a conservator at great expense but fortunately for the customer it was part of an insurance claim (water damage).
Whenever possible I take things apart in front of the customer but its always the ones where you are pushed for time/ have someone else waiting that turn out like this.

but look at that quality tape work, he he
no but seriously, just be careful about what you say to the customer
they may have framed themselves firstly
second they may of instructed the person to do it that way
