Dust specks under the glass

Post by Howard »

Is it only me, or do you lot also have trouble with specks of dust under the glass. Drives me bonkers when Ive spent so much time making sure everything is spotless. I spend a lot of time making sure the converted garage into a workshop is dust free, but the number of times Ive turned the frame package over after putting in the framers points and finding one minute particle in the corner is #@!"well annoying. Could it be static that is attracting these little devils after wiping the glass with a liquid cleaner and Tork lint free tissue. Please suggest somthng, Its driving me crazy.

I use a soft bristled wide artists brush to flick any remaining dust particle from inside the rebate, from one the mount or artwork, or under the glass and I find that this works quite well for me.

I am seriously considering sealing the package as my default technique. Interesting tip on using a dust cover trimmer to tidy up the tape on the glass.

Interesting article. More reason to continue the habit of taping the package. I have been using ph770. It sticks to the glass well and certainly does not come off without tearing if you have to undo the package. What tape do you typically use for this?

I don't do it on every frame but but when I do I use the same or even scotch 810 (magic tape) but for the dogs doo-dahs jobs I use Lineco foil tape.

I'm not a big fan of pH7-70, so I use P-90 for just keeping flies and dust out, or the Linco aluminium barrier tape when doing the full waterproof job. P-90 sticks and stays stuck really well.

This article has really made me think, maybe I should seal all frames as a matter of course?

Does anyone do this?

Yes, I generally do. Some do it out of necessity:
