help finding moulding

Post by CanvasChris »

Have a client who wants something like the attached... it's a dark chocolate with 50mm depth and 70 wide.

Looked through my books but nothing stands out.

Can you identify?

Also image is only 450 square with 80mm mount border .... personally think this size moulding is too big... thoughts?

Thanks

Chris

Size wise I would have said it was fine but perhaps make the mount 10-15mm wider so it is definately bigger than the moulding. But then I think you will need to do something with the mount either a black core slip and or a top mount steped back 15mm just to break it up.

As for the moulding it may be an old lopez :?: :?:

Hi Alistair

They are Fine Art prints so was going to give them a 10mm border and 20mm at bottom so client can sign and number. Also was going to use the 2000 or 3500mic board to give it that little extra.

Who did that one? There are a few 70mm width profiles but not the depth.

That's a bit of a monster!

Looks like 'wenge' - plenty like it finish-wise - there's one in Simons 'Phoenix' range on p41 of their catalogue, 35 wide and 40 deep, which is still quite chunky for the size of the artwork.

My thoughts too Robo

Actually do have that SImons frame on the shelf but it's not as dark as it looks in the catalogue. Client describes a Dark Chocolate... and that one is a Milk Chocolate in the flesh!

You could substitute it with arqadia's 332496000 but it is a smooth finish not grained. That will be the chunkiest however 33749600 may be better. Alternatively you could very easily stain 332400000 or 337400000 with a wenge stain and wax finish. I have done that when a moulding colour didn't match an inferior designers expectations of Wenge. in light of your comments above then this may be the better option.

Yes 3500micron with a top mount of standard with a 8mm offset both in hayseed  is my default for limited editions. It is the same as what W&G and demontford use so if these are going into a gallery it is what would be expected. If they were not square I would put a gallery drop on the bottom of about 20-25 mm more than the top and sides. Again this is the norm for fine art prints.

We have tried different combinations for limited editions but thick and thin with 8mm offset was the general consensus. We have had prints rejected because I went a bit avante garde and put a 15mm offset :giggle: :giggle: .
