Mirror Backing

Post by Ash the Framer »

Hi All,

Quick few questions:

- Should you add a backing board to mirrors or leave the mirror showing from the back?

- Any tips on hanging a 1000mm x 750mm mirror with a rather heavy moulding?

Thanks

Ash

You need to back it with MDF etc. The second thing to bear in mind if you ever do a mirror which is to go in a public place the mirror needs to be safety backed ie a very thick strong self adhesive plastic film which keeps the glass in one place if it should happen to break.

As above don't fix yourself you won't be insured domestic and certainly not commercial. If you have to supply fixings I would go with either mirror plates or spring lock fixings (lion cat no.47 pagw 132 item 3943). As to positioning one either sides and most important one or two on the bottom. The bottom bears the load of most of the frame.

Hope that helps
