Hi people, and thank you for your words of appreciation. I owe Dermot a large, cold beer because he got all this started and tuned it up to a high pitch.
Pete,
Long time ago, when I was still making frames into my minuscule local market, in Romania, I too used to feel that I was the king of my hay, and thought that my costumers liked the stuff I did because those frames were all about me-mine-myself, and I was nothing less than sparklingly smart, inventive, gifted and unique. In fact I had little competition, to say the truth, and that alone made me feel so special. Years later I learned the hard way what was my real quality and size while competing with many excellent American manufacturers for a tiny high end niche of the frame market. I earned my place by getting better, that is observing, learning, adopting and perfecting what was special about my competitors. Today I'd say that my frames sell not necessarily because of my design and artistry (although those two must be a good size factor), but simply because they happen to be suitable for a given piece of art and budget. I am not aware of anybody collecting my frames or those of my competitors for that matter but, I am certain that our frames will last and be cherished for many generations for their quietly supporting and complimenting the art within.

It would be money well spent, Frame Faery, and with the exchange rate now it would not cost the earth.
Theres nobody in England or Ireland able to produce a range of frames to that standard.
If you want to learn Handfinishing Techniques or anything for that matter, always go to the best your wasting your time and hard earned money otherwise.
I just looked at the online catalogue again 72 pages of magic!
Maybe those people that were talking about bringing people over to give talks etc. at the Spring Fair to give a new outlook to framing here would consider inviting Whynot over at some stage.
I dont think anyone here or America could say hes not gifted.
I believed 10 years ago from reading various articals that Handfinishing Techniques involved using raw wood and with the use of various layers or paints and stripping back to bring the underline colours through, along with the use of distressing effects etc. was what it involved.
God! was I wrong!
And wasted so much time reading rubbish.
Well done Whynot. You opened my eyes for me! Your frames speak for themselfs.
Your right Frame Fairy, if Whynot wont come here, maybe its time to go to him.
