A very enjoyable day. I would recommend Van Gogh to Kandinsky-Symbolist Landscape in Europe 1880-1910 to anyone who finds themselves in Edinburgh.
No matter how well you know an image/painting, nothing compares to seeing it for real. I was particularly taken with Wheat Field with a Reaper by Van Gogh and how he describes the painting to his brother in a letter written when he was in an asylum.
I also ended up following Mark Gattis (carrying his Mycroft umbrella) round the gallery!
