framing a mirror

Post by nickhood »

In the 4 years i have been framing i have never has a mirror to frame until now. What is the best way, with the exception of a mount is it the same way as framing say a piece of art painted on board? what is used to hold mirror into the rebate? are there some special fixings or is it just framers points?

Just the same as a picture. :D

Black the back of the rebate either by painting or with a big black marker. Some mouldings are a bit untidy under the rebate lip and this will reflect in the mirror.

Make sure the frame is perfectly flat. Especially on big mouldings. A slight twist will bend the mirror and produce distortions in the reflected image. Even a thick mirror will bend.
