I have some printed linen backed with a sort of wonder web type stuff to make it stiffer. Any suggestions on which tape would be best to hinge this?

The backing is probably an interfacing material like vilene so I don't think adhesive paper hinges would be very good. You could put a couple of stitches where you would put a hinge but the thing is probably quite thick and would need to be made flush, so why not just sink mount it and use nothing, or, if it's square, possibly a platform mount. http://theframersforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8798
